I grew up much like Will Smith in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Almost exactly as I was also from Philadelphia, not West Philly, but close enough. That’s where our lives took different turns. I didn’t have a rich uncle out West wanting me to go live with him, but I did have some real nerdy cousins like Carlton (Hey Stephanie!).
While growing up I realized that I didn’t just want the same life my parents were leading. Their lives consisted of blue collar factory work. They didn’t love their jobs but their jobs paid the bills. You could say the corporation owned them. At one point a few of the employees got the idea to scam the company. The set up a fake company and these fraudsters then billed the company for material shipments that never arrived because they never existed. Little did they know, the corporation didn’t take kindly to theft and two of them went to jail.
Andrews (as the boss was named) accused my dad of being part of it and fired him. My dads attorney promptly got his job back because my dad was on vacation during the thieves videotaped meeting to set up the whole thing. Yes, they discussed it openly in the break room which had cameras and a microphone. Not the brightest people.
That’s just the beginning. Tune in tomorrow, same bat time, same bat place.
Here is a picture of a break room. Please don’t embezzle in the break room.
